Che Assange - Fighting for our right to freedom of information, free speech and global justice
What an incredible age we live in. If information is freedom, we are indeed rich if we can view the internet without censorship, without fear of being dragged from our homes and persecuted for our beliefs or political views... We are rich if we can sleep at night knowing that everyone we love and care about won't be blown to smithereens by morning...
It's a sad, sad state of affairs when the real terrorists of our world - the despotic rulers that enslave and oppress under the guise of false democracy - can get away with a broad-scale disinformation campaign like the one waged recently against Julian Assange.
When Assange was asked at the 2010 Oslo Freedom Forum, about the ideology and intended purpose of Wikileaks, he stated:
^ Lysglimt, Hans (9 December 2010). "Transcript of interview with Julian Assange (2010-4-26)". Oslo Freedom Forum. Farmann Magazine. Retrieved 14 December 2010
As someone who sees his mission in life - via Wikileaks - to keep governments honest and redress the imbalance of tyranny with full transparency, he has become our new national hero. Viva Julian Assange!

Macbook Pro Battery stuck in 0% limbo
Well, after letting my laptop sleep for too long, the battery gave up the ghost and wouldn't recharge. It was plugged in but the battery remained on 0% for longer than normal.
I tried a reboot, but that didn't work, so I tried what had worked once before:
shutting down, taking the battery out, replacing it and pressing the test light button to see the green indicator light. Then plugged in the power and waited for 15 mins before booting up.
Viola! It worked.
One more tip for future reference - Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC).

the 4:3 ratio blues
Well, it's starting. It was only a matter of time and standards creep. As we move forward into the 21st century, widescreen is 'king'. I'm viewing things my trusty 23yr old telly never had to deal with before. Tiny images and barely legible type, the wide screen format is rendering inset images and text far to small to be seen properly and the standards are slipping into the void...
Even films are starting to be impossible to view in the old rounded edge square that I'm used to... As a VHS-er, I'm sad. This is all just so Beta...

look alike?
Has anyone else thought the bass player in the Human League, the drummer in New Order and lead guitarist of Powderfinger all look a little bit more than similar?

Steven's Directory - There is no such thing
This evening I got a call from 'Steven's Directory'. The thick Indian accent on the other end was quoting my old address to me and asking me to "confirm your complimentary listing in our business directory".
I don't think so.
"Who are you again please?", I asked. She repeated 'Steven's Directory' as I googled it but nothing specific to Steven's Directory was listed - odd for a business directory these days, no?
I asked her to spell out Steven's to make sure I was looking it up right and she revealed that they don't have a website! This really go me suspicious.
I asked her if I would be getting a copy of the directory that I'll be appearing in and she said, "No, but they are available in most bookstores". Hmm... again, suss.
I refused to give me new address. She hung up.
The only online information I could find on Steven's Directory was on another blog here (thanks)
"All they are doing is confirming your information so they can onsell it to other Telemarketers as current, up to date, suckers.
Nuff said.

iMac heaven
Since getting my dream-come-true brand-spankin-new iMac computer, life has taken a strange twist. My mac friend Iain told me that I should check out this thing called SecondLife... and after being a little dubious about joining an online computer game, I have now become a regular in this virtual world. Heard of it? www.secondlife.com
